Nicolas Tourte

“Rohan Graëffly’s work is undisciplined and unpredictable. He juggles painting, photography, sculpture, video, and installation. He experiments, constructs, and deconstructs what surrounds him and what nourishes him. His works, often presented in series, are born from associations of ideas, objects, texts, and images. Because he imposes no limits on himself, he follows in the footsteps of artists who use irony, criticism, and the absurd to develop a multi-referential oeuvre. His work combines the iconoclastic spirit of Marcel Duchamp, the surrealism of René Magritte, the radicalism of John Heartfield, the mischievousness of Wim Delvoye, and the impertinence of Andres Serrano and Marcel Mariën.” Drawing from everyday life: its objects, its words, its current events, its rituals, its fears, its weariness, and its traces, the artist constructs a body of work oscillating between pessimism, lucidity, and derision."
