Nicolas Tourte


Nicolas Tourte was born in Charleville-Mézières, lives in Lille, and works everywhere. Associate Artist at Group A Cultural Cooperative.

After studying at the ESAD in Valenciennes, he focused on the notion of cycles and maintains a strong connection with architecture. The life sciences guide his research; he questions humanity's place in the universe with humor and derision. In the digital age, he oscillates between zero and one. In this in-between, this interstice, he rejoices in his inventive discoveries.






In 2015, he resided in Rome and created the monumental video installation "Lupanar," which was tested at the Interstice #10 festival in Caen. In 2016, "Vues stratigraphiques," a series of photomontages related to trench warfare, was the subject of the solo exhibition "Etat crépusculaire" (Twilight State) at the Musée de la Piscine, Roubaix.
In 2017, "Visions intermédiaires" (Intermediate Visions) was a retrospective exhibition at the Château d'Hardelot.
In 2018, he was invited to the Gran Taipei Biennale in Taiwan and exhibited his research on natural phenomena in Katowice, Poland, during COP 24, Cooldown with the Alliance Française.
In 2019, HYAM selected Nicolas Tourte to inaugurate its first carte blanche for a French artist on the island of Hydra. He participated in the exhibition "Plein vent!" (curated by COAL) at the Halle au sucres, Dunkirk. In 2020, he designed Élipses, a commission for the Route des Villes d’Eaux du Massif Central, presented at Vidéoformes, Clermont-Ferrand.
In 2021, a body of his drawings was included in the collections of the FRAC Picardie.
In 2022, he joined the Artists' Perspective on Urbanism program with "No Shelter," a sculpture in public space.
In September 2023, he was invited to the Shenzhen Art Museum, China, to present a new configuration of his work "Lupanar."
In 2024, Nicolas Tourte joined a residency program at the Rimbun Dahan Art Center, Selengor, Malaysia, and joined the Root K Contemporary gallery in Tokyo.
