Louise Van Reeth is a Belgian artist based in Brussels whose practice explores colour, matter and the transformative nature of painting.
Her recent series Ever Changing marks a new chapter in her work, following two years of chromatic research with Belgian painter and colourist Bernard Gilbert at the Academy of Fine Arts of Namur. Colour becomes the central subject of these paintings — not as a fixed element, but as something unstable and continuously shifting through light, density and juxtaposition.
Built through successive layers of acrylic and mixed media, the works retain traces of the different stages of their construction. Some colours remain visible, others partially disappear beneath new surfaces, creating subtle tensions between transparency and opacity, emergence and erasure. The painting becomes a record of its own transformation, where each layer alters what came before while opening the possibility of something new.
This process echoes Louise Van Reeth’s broader reflection on time and experience: the way successive moments accumulate, fade and leave traces. Rather than depicting specific landscapes or forms, Ever Changing creates immersive chromatic spaces in which the eye can wander freely and perception remains deliberately open.
Through colour, texture and layering, Louise Van Reeth approaches painting as a space of continual transformation — a place where change itself becomes both subject and material.
